It's funny how some things stay with you. I always liked to read books about World War II as a kid (The Endless Steppe was fascinating to me). I still love books about WWII. One of my favorite series was the Lara Ingalls Wilder books (Little House on the Prairie). When I went to college and would come home to visit I'd read those books to my little sisters...to make sure they wouldn't forget me, but also because I loved the stories so much I wanted to make sure they heard them too.
Anyway, to my present point. I am not a real patient person and when I start a book, I can't really wait around to finish it. The last several books I have read I cannot put down. Every spare minute I get I read. I almost brought my book to the dinner table tonight, but decided better of that one. Luckily for me, the current book was completed at 11 PM, instead of 2 AM like the last one. But I HATE this! I had all this motivation and drive to clean up tonight, but I picked up the book instead. And so now I'm done with the book (wahoo!), but my house is a wreck.
Incidentily I just finished "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society." I recommend it..."lovely" is the best word I can come up with to describe it. It does take a minute to get used to the writing style, but it's worth it.
In my ideal life I imagine sometimes my bedroom has a big oversized chair with a side table and a fireplace where I can cuddle up and read, while my slave force (children) are old enough to keep my house clean instead of mess it up :) And they love reading too. And I won't let it get on my nerves when THEY stay up until all hours of the night to see what happens to Narnia or Harry Potter....

Sweet Valley High was a guilty pleasure, but I adored Nancy Drew most. And Little House. My mom just sent Bria all my old Little House books and she's enjoying them. Bria is just like I was. I hope Chloe will be, too, but I think she will now that I see her discovering the world of reading on her own.
I'm debating whether or not to read a few chapters now that it's so late...but my laundry is totally finished, so I deserve it! Right?
I have the same problem. I love to read but when I start I just can't put the book down. There are so many good books out there.
I hope I can get that read before the first, but I doubt it will happen. I put it on hold at the library and I am #7 on the list waiting for it...
I usually have a really hard time putting down a good book until I'm done too, which is why I have to keep myself from picking them up in the first place while I'm in classes. This summer I'll read all I can get my hands on! :)
I totally remember all of Grandma Cope's books! There were always so many it was hard to choose.
Hey- me too! I love every single book about Anne or Laura I've ever found. And once I start, I don't stop. My house still hasn't recovered from last book group :S
I'm definitely with you. I just started reading a book I found on my shelf (not sure where it came from) called Crocodile on the Sandbar by Elizabeth Peters. I really like it. A little different style (is it called an aside when the narrator "speaks" to the reader? Anyway, whatever that's called, it's in here, and I like it.).
I was a HUGE Baby-Sitters Club fan. I just acquired all of my old books from my parents' house. I hope Zoie likes to read too.
